Smart lockers allow for IT and other personnel to quickly and securely store and access electronic equipment, drop off computers or laptops for repair, and more. For equipment checkout, employees or customers can use an online service or an app on their smartphone to reserve equipment. Once an item is reserved, the user will receive a notification via text, email, or push notification that their item is ready for pickup. The user can then use the code, barcode, or RFID signal from their smartphone to access the specific locker with their desired items. Returning an item is a simple process of scanning or entering a code and placing the equipment back in the locker compartment. The integrated remote management software is able to track what equipment is checked out, who checked it out, and what time they are expected to return it. Customized reporting and audit trailing can help manage IT asset inventory while also enabling IT staff to resolve issues.
In an electronic repair setting, customers may request service through a website or app and drop off their laptop, computer, or other electronic device in an available locker. When the repair is complete, the customer will be notified via email, text, or app notification that their item is ready to be picked up with the supplied code, barcode, or RFID scan from their smartphone.
Locker systems can be infinitely expanded to fit any size business. Locker units can be installed indoors or outdoors with the optional canopy to protect from rain and weather. Temperature-controlled lockers can also be added to any parcel locker configuration to provide convenient heated or cooled compartments.
Physically, the smart locker systems consist of a bank of modular lockers, with one of the lockers dedicated to housing the system hardware and power supply. A typical bank of parcel lockers is comprised of columns, with each column consisting of either six small lockers per column, a mixture of five or six small and medium lockers per column, or two large lockers per column. Each column features a proprietary locking raceway that incorporates the required number of smart locking devices for the number of lockers in each column. Electronic locker systems are available in a variety of finishes to complement or match the environments in which they are installed.
